Buccal Fat Removal: Benefits, Aftercare & Risks

Rhinoplasty, commonly known as nose job surgery, ranks among the most sought-after cosmetic procedures worldwide. Mexico stands out as a premier destination for safe and effective procedures. Our comprehensive guide provides invaluable insights into the precautions and post-operative care necessary for a successful rhinoplasty experience. Whether you’re traveling from abroad or residing in Mexico, our expert advice ensures you’re well-prepared every step of the way.

Before Rhinoplasty

  • Address Your Concerns: During the consultation, your surgeon will inquire about your medical history and conduct an anatomical review. This is the ideal time to share your expectations and clarify any doubts about the procedure.
  • No Smoking: Tobacco increases the risk of complications such as infections or healing problems. It’s essential to refrain from smoking or using nicotine products (e.g., gum, patches, or vapes) at least three weeks before and three weeks after surgery.
  • Avoid Alcoholic Beverages: Alcohol consumption is also discouraged during the week leading up to nasal plastic surgery, especially the day before the operation, as it increases the risk of bleeding during and after surgery.
  • Medications: If you take medications regularly, inform your doctor to guide you on which ones to continue and which ones to suspend before surgery. It’s advisable to stop taking aspirin, dietary supplements, herbal remedies, or alternative medicine at least one week before to minimize the risk of bleeding and bruising.

How Are Costs Determined?

The costs of plastic surgery depend on various factors, such as the type of procedure requested, the surgeon’s location and clinic, and additional expenses like travel and accommodation. During the consultation, whether conducted in person or via video call, patients should discuss these costs with the surgeon to obtain a more accurate quote before making travel arrangements.

After Rhinoplasty

While the results of rhinoplasty may take some weeks of months to be fully visible. Postoperative care is crucial to limit swelling, bruising, and preserve the surgical outcome.

  • Maintain Elevated Head Position: It’s recommended to keep the upper body slightly elevated, at least during the first three days after nose surgery. This position prevents pressure on the sutures and reduces swelling. You can stack several pillows or cushions to maintain this position or use a recliner.
  • Apply Local Cold: Immediately after surgery, cold compresses can be applied to one side of the nose to reduce swelling. Avoid touching the wound or inserting objects through the nostrils.
  • Avoid Wetting the Splint: The nasal splint helps reduce swelling and protects the nose. It’s important to avoid getting it wet during bathing. Therefore, cleansing should be done from the neck down in the shower, and the face can be gently wiped with cloths in front of a mirror.
  • Avoid Blowing Your Nose: Nasal cleaning can be performed with hypertonic solutions such as Sterimar or Nasalub. Avoid using tissues or attempting to insert cotton swabs into the nose.
  • Bruising: Sometimes, bruising may appear around the nose and eyes. These typically disappear between 7 and 15 days after surgery. Discuss with your doctor if there are alternatives such as ointments or medications to expedite their absorption.
  • Avoid Activities Requiring Physical Exertion or Contact.
